ECCO DOMANI® FASHION FOUNDATION KICKS OFF ANNUAL SEARCH FOR FASHION’S RISING STARS

2011 Winners To Be Featured In Landmark 10th Anniversary Season

New York, NY – August 2010 – Today, the Ecco Domani Fashion Foundation (EDFF) announces the kick-off of its 10th anniversary season, giving designers across the country the chance to join the ranks of some of fashion’s biggest names. Over the past decade, Ecco Domani Wines of Italy has invested over $1 million to help launch the careers of some of today’s hottest designers including: Zac Posen; Proenza Schouler; Rodarte; Erin Fetherston; and Alexander Wang. This year, another seven talented emerging designers will be selected to each receive a $25,000 grant to showcase their collections during New York’s Fall 2011 Fashion Week.

“We’re thrilled to be celebrating the 10th anniversary of the Ecco Domani Fashion Foundation,” says Molly Davis, Marketing Director for Ecco Domani Wines of Italy. “For the past decade, Ecco Domani has been integral in helping to identify the next generation of fashion superstars such as Zac Posen and Derek Lam. Going into 2011, we are excited to renew our commitment to the fashion industry and look forward to finding the new class of talented EDFF designers!”

“The Ecco Domani Fashion Foundation allows emerging designers to go further, dream bigger and take more risks,” says Prabal Gurung, 2010 Ecco Domani Fashion Foundation womenswear award recipient. “I am grateful to Ecco Domani for providing me with a stepping stone to reach that next level and I strongly encourage new designers to apply for this amazing opportunity.”

For 2011, seven designers (4 Womenswear, 1 Menswear, 1 Accessories and 1 Sustainable Design) will be selected and given the opportunity to present their work on fashion’s biggest stage - New York Fall Fashion Week. Award recipients are chosen by a panel of highly respected fashion experts who comb through hundreds of applications each year to identify the industry’s future stars.

The selection committee includes: Marylou Luther (Editor of The International Fashion Syndicate); Sally Singer (Editor in Chief at T: The New York Times Style Magazine); Kim Hastreiter (Editor in Chief and Publisher of Paper); Nicole Fischelis (Fashion Director at Macy’s); Julie Gilhart (Vice President of Fashion Merchandising at Barneys); Ruth Finley (Publisher of The Fashion Calendar); Ken Downing (Senior Vice President/Fashion Director at Neiman Marcus); Jay Bell (buyer for Menswear Designs at Barneys New York); Christopher Bollen (Editor in Chief of Interview); and Alex Badia (Men’s Fashion Director of Women’s Wear Daily).

In addition to the application forms and recommendation letters, this year’s entrants will be asked to submit a 2-3 minute video describing their design aesthetic and why they deserve to be an EDFF award recipient.
