Merlot Wine

Ecco Domani® 2017 Sicilia Merlot

Ecco Domani translates to “Here’s tomorrow” in Italian, reflecting our forward-thinking approach and contemporary wine style. We choose our grapes from the regions where they grow best, which allows us to create authentic Italian wines with bright fruit flavors. Our Merlot is made with fruit from the historic and celebrated region of Sicily, renowned for its red wines.

About the Wine:

Our Ecco Domani Sicilia Merlot is medium-bodied with lush dark fruit aromas. On the palate, it is balanced and fruit-forward, with layers of ripe cherry, blackberry and spice framed by soft tannins before delivering a clean, full-flavored finish. Our Merlot is a wonderful accompaniment for a wide range of foods, including filet mignon, grilled steak and chicken.

About the Region:
The grapes for our Ecco Domani Merlot were selected from the Italian island of Sicily, where the warm sun and cool night breezes from the Mediterranean create ideal conditions for growing Merlot with bright fruit aromas and soft tannins. We select our grapes from the southern edges of Sicily: On the southeast part of the island near the sea, the sandy soil and mild climate create grapes with vibrant flavors and velvety tannins. To the southwest, our grapes grow alongside the Valley of the Temples, which is a mountainous region with heavy clay soil. Grapes mature more slowly here, resulting in deep color and a rich mouthfeel.

Viticulture Notes:

The 2017 harvest was an excellent vintage for Merlot despite delivering lower yields. In a harvest that ended early, a dry, mild winter preceded late spring frost in April. The weather during harvest remained hot and dry until mid-September, without heat peaks that could stress the grapes. The fruit had excellent ripening conditions and a perfect balance between acidity, sugars and jammy fruit notes. Wines from this year are showing rich flavors and ideal structure.

Winemaking Notes:
The grapes for this wine were crushed and then fermented in upright stainless steel tanks for 10 days at 77°F. Follwing primary fermentation, the wine underwent limited maceration before completing malolactic fermentation.
