Serving and Storing

Storing and serving your wine are the first steps to enjoying it! Follow these tips to ensure that your wine is at its very best for you and your guests.

Savvy Storage

Storing wine correctly is key to successful entertaining with wine. To keep wine at its optimal flavor, it's important to get the basics right: time and place.

  • Store all unopened wine in a cool, dark place - away from extreme temperature variation and sunlight. When storing wine for an extended period of time, neither the refrigerator nor the freezer is the best place for wine! The optimal temperature for storing most wines is between 45°F and 65°F. Unless you have a cellar or a wine fridge, try storing wine in a closet, which usually maintains a stable temperature.

  • By storing a wine bottle horizontally on its side, the cork can remain moist. This means that the cork is less likely to crack or break when opening.

  • As a general rule of thumb, Ecco Domani wines, as are most wines, are produced to be consumed within several months of purchase. Very few wines are meant to be aged for years and years. Ecco Domani red wines however, may get better with age if stored properly, and can be stored for up to 2-3 years from the year listed on the vintage.

  • Once opened, white and red wine can be stored for 2-3 days in the refrigerator. A vacuum wine sealer is an excellent tool to keep an opened bottle of wine fresh for several days after opening. These sealers can be purchased at most locations that sell wine.

Successful Serving

Demonstrating proper wine serving etiquette will impress your guests, show off your wines, and prevent spills. With careful planning, you'll be on your way to wine-serving stardom!

  • White wines like Pinot Grigio are best served slightly chilled. However, wine straight out of the refrigerator is often too cold, and the flavors of the wine will be muted. As a rule of thumb, remove the fully chilled white wine from the refrigerator about half an hour before you plan to serve it. As it sits on the counter, it will reach an optimal serving temperature.

  • Red wines like Merlot are best served slightly below room temperature, but not chilled. It's a good idea to put a room-temperature red wine in the refrigerator for a brief 15 minutes prior to serving.
