Wine Do's and Don'ts

Ideas and Inspiration for Making Any Event with Wine a Success

Ecco Domani wines pair beautifully with a host of occasions. We’re pleased to share ideas and inspiration for making any event with wine a success.

Do serve wine in any glass you want

Contrary to what you may have heard, you can serve wine in any glass you’d like-although certain glasses enhance the aromas and flavors of wines. To wit, red wines are often served in large, deep glasses that allow their complex flavors to open up and shine. White wines are often served in tall, narrower glasses that allow for moderate aeration while preserving vibrant fruit and floral aromas.

In spite of these guidelines, it’s absolutely okay to serve your wines however you wish – especially when enjoying in casual settings where style or function may trump any formal guidelines. Stemless glasses, as well as mason jars, are some of the newest variations on the typical wine glass we find especially charming.

Do learn how to elegantly open a bottle

Get to know your bottle opener, especially if you plan to entertain. To ensure a flawless presentation, it's always a good idea to have a back-up corkscrew on hand. There are many different types of corkscrews available - some elegantly simplistic, some intricately complex. With all the creativity in design, the opener can be an expression of your personal style!

Do serve more than one wine

Mix it up a little! Have several types of wine on hand - you'll be sure to please all of your guests if you offer a varied selection. We recommend serving several whites and several reds.

Do incorporate your personal style into your party

Do store wine in a cool place.

If after the party is over, you have wine leftover, you can store open bottles for up to a week in the refrigerator. Using a vacuum pump-commonly available at wine stores and many retailers who sell wine accessories- will ensure the wine stays fresh.

Don't get overwhelmed by food and wine pairings

Have fun and just experiment with wine and food pairings. As a general rule, dark wines go with heavier foods and lighter wines go well with lighter foods. Pinot Grigio and Merlot provide perfect examples: Pair a crisp Pinot Grigio with dishes like seafood, poultry and vegetables. Pair our rich, fruit forward Merlot with hearty pastas orbeef.
