Alexander Wang - 2008
San Francisco native Alexander Wang moved to New York at age 18 to attend the acclaimed Parsons Design School, where he completed internships at Marc Jacobs, Derek Lam and Vogue. By his sophomore year, Wang was already designing the first collection for his own label. Today, Wang's collections flourish, challenging the conventional rules of luxury and bridging the gap between street wear and couture.
Wang aims to bring the functionality and ease of a simple tee shirt and jeans into all aspects of his designs for women, including pieces for work and evening. He turns the basics upside down and brings casual chic to a new level of sophistication.
"Anyone can get all dolled up and glamorous," explains Wang, "but it is how people dress on their 'off days' that is most inspiring, where a woman's true beauty and style are bestowed."
Since winning his Ecco Domani Fashion Foundation award, Wang has been nominated for a Council of Fashion Designers of America Swarovski Award for Womenswear, and his unique designs continue to earn the young designer attention and acclaim.
