Derek Lam - 2004
Upon graduation from Parsons School of Design in New York, Derek Lam began his career as a collections designer at Michael Kors. He later relocated to Hong Kong to create designs for one of Asia's largest retail brands. Following his stint in Hong Kong, Lam returned to New York to work with Michael Kors as vice president of design for the KORS line.
Lam later launched the Derek Lam Company, establishing his own brand of elegant, refined clothes designed for women who revel in feeling uniquely individual and unabashedly feminine.
Following his Ecco Domani Fashion Foundation win, Lam launched his handbag and shoe line in 2006 and was later named creative director for luxury retailer Tod's ready-to-wear and accessories collections. Lam received two awards from the Council of Fashion Designersof America: The Swarovski Perry Ellis Award for Womenswear in 2005 and the Accessory Designer of the Year award in 2007.
