Réyes - 2008
Hailing from the Dominican Republic, designer José Ramón Réyes moved to New York City in 1994 to attend Parsons School of Design's Fashion Marketing program.
While attending Parsons, Réyes interned with premiere marketing company Onward Kashiyama, overseeing press for the Helmut Lang collection. He later landed an internship at Chanel in the marketing and press office for the classic label's ready-to-wear line.
Upon graduation, Réyes joined Richard Tyler as public relations manager, overseeing publicity and events for Tyler's ready-to-wear collections and accessories line. Réyes worked closely with the design team, gaining exposure to Tyler's exquisite workmanship and use of luxurious fabrics. This incredible experience inspired Réyes to design his own line.
In February 2005, Réyes launched his own women's knitwear collection, aptly named Réyes, with a range of luxury jersey separates, combining classic styles with fine fabrics and superb tailoring techniques.
Later that year, Réyes expanded his label to create a complete women's ready-to-wear collection. "The line has a playful, feminine spirit with a boyish sporty edge that verge into an effortless mix of sophistication and 'I don't care' élan," says Réyes.
The designer's future plans include a women's accessories line and a menswear collection.
